MIS Middle School

Middle Years Programme at MIS

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) at Mehr-e-Taban International School is delivered in accordance with the rigorous standards of the International Baccalaureate (IB). Designed for students aged 11–16, the MYP provides a challenging and balanced academic framework that fosters intellectual curiosity, intercultural understanding, and personal growth. With a strong emphasis on inquiry, critical thinking, and real-world application, the programme prepares students for academic success in the IB Diploma Programme and beyond, while nurturing them as principled, reflective, and globally minded individuals.

Curriculum Structure

The MYP curriculum is built around eight subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, Physical and Health Education, and Design. This balanced framework ensures students receive a broad and challenging education while developing essential skills in inquiry, communication, and collaboration.

At Mehr-e-Taban International School, students take English and Persian as their Language and Literature subjects. French and German are offered as Language Acquisition options. In Individuals and Societies, the focus is on Integrated Humanities and Geography. Mathematics is taught at a standard level. Within the Arts, students study Visual Arts and Music, while Digital Design is the focus of the Design subject group.

Important Note: National requirements are also integrated into the design of the curriculum, ensuring that students meet both international IB standards and local educational expectations.

Learning in the MYP is structured through concepts and global contexts, helping students connect classroom knowledge with real-world issues and diverse perspectives. In addition, students engage in interdisciplinary learning that fosters creativity and critical thinking across subjects.

The MYP also places strong emphasis on the IB Learner Profile—nurturing students to be inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, open-minded, caring, balanced, and reflective. These attributes shape not only academic growth but also personal character. Alongside this, students build key Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, such as critical thinking, research, communication, self-management, and social skills, which prepare them for lifelong success.

A key feature of the MYP is community engagement. Students are encouraged to apply their learning beyond the classroom by identifying needs within their communities and taking meaningful action. These experiences help students develop empathy, responsibility, and leadership, while strengthening their sense of global citizenship.

A key component of the programme is the Personal Project, where students independently explore a topic of personal interest, applying the skills and knowledge developed throughout the MYP. Together, these elements prepare learners for lifelong success as reflective, principled, and internationally minded individuals.

Assessment Process

Assessment in the MYP is criterion-related, meaning students are evaluated against IB standards rather than being compared to one another. Teachers assess achievement in each subject using four criteria, focusing on skills such as knowledge, application, communication, and reflection.

In the final year of the MYP at Mehr-e-Taban International School, students take part in IB eAssessments, which include on-screen examinations and coursework in different subject areas. These assessments provide an internationally recognized measure of student achievement and ensure that learners are prepared for the demands of the IB Diploma Programme and beyond.
